Committee of Presidents

The original Federation of Students & Society agreement was struck between the Federation and the Student Societies in 1968, which called for a committee composed of the Federation and the Student Society Presidents. In order to address the disparate nature of student groups on campus, the purpose of the Committee of Presidents is to maintain and promote liaison and co-ordination among the Federation of Students and the Student Societies and to encourage and develop student representation in all sectors of the University of Waterloo.

Voting membership on the Committee of Presidents consists of the Presidents of all
recognized Student Societies, Presidents of the Federated and Affiliated Colleges and
Universities, the Presidents of the Residence Councils, and the President of the
Federation of Students.

Non-voting members on the Committee of Presidents consists of the Vice-President-Internal of the Federation of Students (who chairs the Committee meetings), the President of the Graduate Students’ Association, Presidents of any other organization which may be recognized by Students’ Council as solely representing students in a particular academic area, as well as any additional people the Committee may see fit to appoint as the need arises.

The Committee is required to meet at least once every two to three weeks during each term.
